Lets Get the Job Done

Posted on: Tuesday, February 14, 2012

Every so often, I'll get a call from hubby (the contractor) and he'll tell me about something he found or tore out at work that I would love/would be perfect for the store. Sometimes it works out, sometimes...not so much. Recently, he hit it out of the park! This workbench/16-drawer beauty fit us perfectly. We were able to organize all of our hardware, lighting, paper goods, etc. and give them the space they needed for easy shopping.

With Pinterest and all of the home do-it-yourself shows out there, we get a lot of requests for missing pieces for projects.

Typewriters, globes, rulers, lamps, maps...we try to keep these types of things in stock (kind of like how a mini mart needs bottled water and m & m's).

These drawers hold all kinds of ingredients for you.

We love to hear where all these pieces end up. One cutie wanted to make a gift for her boyfriends grandparent's anniversary. She bought a map, made a journal, and marked out important places in their life on the map. We have another customer, Paula of Seven Gypsys, (author of One Lucky Day) who comes in to find pieces for her business of scrapbook art. When we see what she does with her finds at Ruby Rose, we are blown away!

What projects are you working on?

Help us find this beauty a home!

This couch is one of those pieces that stopped us in our tracks...

the shape, the curved lines, the detailed carvings on the center back...yes!

We love the golden color, and although there is some wear and tear, we love that it gives it a regal feel.

At first, we thought someone could pull an extreme couch makeover...

purple, or green, or cream, or...................?

Then our thoughts shifted to those anthro catalogs...where you see those models on the great furniture.

This would be a perfect piece.

Personally, I see it as a prop for wedding photos...maybe in a grassy field?

And the best part? The couch is only $155!

Color Comes Dancing in at Ruby Rose

This makes me want to move into our store and lay down!

That lamp is the perfect size, yes? Not too big, not too small, but just right.
And the simple shells hanging? They add such delicate music and movement.

A trip back in time...vinyls $5/each.

These simple and fun outfits would be perfect for your spring getaways (as well as Cochella!).

Hidden Treasure: Picking Daisies by Kim

Posted on: Wednesday, February 1, 2012

Picking Daisies has put together a fun showing of watercolors by local artist Tracy Taylor, who happens to be a Ruby Rose regular. "Love is in the Air" is the Valentines theme and each watercolor is a framed original matched with a colorful fabric handpicked by Picking Daisies.

There are 10 different watercolors and Tracy had each reproduced into cards.
The cards are sold in a set of 10 Cards for $20.00 or individually for $3.50 each.

The entire collection will be shown starting with Art After Dark--
Friday February 3rd, 2012 6pm-9pm.
Picking Daisies is located in the Creamery
570 Higuera Street Suite 120

Now if you're like me - a "fabric-a-holic" - you won't want to miss dropping in just to look at their fabrics and other fanciful creations. They are known for their cloth napkins, but they sew many other useful things too, all made from 100% cotton fabrics in a variety of vibrant colors and designs.

So put on your dancing shoes and get out of the house! I know Tracy will be there with a song in her heart ready to dance.

Check out Picking Daisies post about the event, here. See you there!

Rainy Day

Posted on: Friday, January 27, 2012

About this time of year, I can usually be found around my garden waiting for the little green sprouts to appear on the hydrangeas, lilacs, roses and just about anything that has gone away for winter. I can also be seen watching the clock around 5ish and wondering if it is staying light out later in the day. What can I say, I am a big fan of spring!

This past monday was rainy, and I was a bit antsy. I opened the recent Elle magazine to help pass the uneasiness and to my surprise, I was quickly transformed. This was the ad that got me smiling.

I wanted to photoshop myself right in between these perfect people. The advertisment just called me in. Maybe it was the lovely lace against the rock wall, maybe it was the gorgeous women beautifully dressed, or maybe it was the men in their classic simplicity with crisp white tees and trousers. I am certain that the sun kissed tans and the beautiful fabrics were speaking to me.

A few pages further was this. IMG_0039

Once again, no words, just beautiful fabrics and accessories (they make me swoon). I am loving the pleated skirts and the vibrant colors for spring (this is coming from someone who dresses in beige and cream).

This page was such a breath of fresh air! So soft, so feminine.IMG_0041

Loving the vintage influence in these!

Next, I opened the Marie Claire Maison October issue and was instantly motivated by these photos.IMG_0049IMG_0051IMG_0052IMG_0053

I can hardly wait to get to the store and move things around!

Our Post On Emily, Not Exactly Emily Post

Posted on: Tuesday, January 24, 2012

We are constantly in awe of our customers/friends styles and talents. One of our favorites is miss Emily--she is not only a customer and the best dang barista, but has been part of our Ruby Rose family.

Em and her family have a love of music, art, and vintage, and we were able to score some photos of inside her cool world (lots of lovelies which she has adopted from The Rose).

I am wondering if these CD's are alphabetized or categorized??

What can I trade for that headboard??!!! (Pretty lighting on the end tables from The Rose)

When I first met Emily at the shop, she was looking for frames. She mentioned that she had asked a handful of friends to paint her pictures of robots and that these would hang in her bathroom. I must admit, I couldn't picture it, but now that I see them, I think "Of course, robots!".

We followed up the house tour with an interview...!

Ruby Rose: Thank you for the peek inside your living space, Emily! Can I ask you a few questions?
Emily: But of course.

RR: Can you remember the first album/CD that you bought?
EM: My first cassette tape that I purchased with my own money was Green Day.

RR: Who are you listening to these days?
EM: I love being recommended new things. I keep the Black Keys, Sharon Jones, The Dap Kings, Avett Brothers, and Adele on a regular rotation.

RR: What are you inspired by? What fills you up?
EM: Laughter, passionated music with big highs and deep lows. The love I have for my daughter, Lily. Art, new and old.

RR: A perfect day off is...
EM: Sally Loo's coffee. My lovely friends faces. A rainy day antique shopping in Cambria. Music, music, music. A good movie before bed.

RR: Your favorite indulgence is...
EM: Anything Sally Loo's creates fills my belly with joy. Singing and dancing in the company of my work companions.

RR: Do you have any parting words?
EM: Collect quotes. You never know when you're going to need one.

Thank you for your time and for inspiring us, Emily!
